Apprenticeships

This time of year can be very challenging for young people looking for an apprenticeship, if they have not yet secured one.

So, I thought that I would shine a little light on them.

There is such a variety of roles and sectors that are available, and there are some amazing opportunities. However, you have to be sure that they are right for you and your learning style.

One of my main pieces of advise is that you have a keen interest in the job role or area of work that you are applying for. Not only will this make you more employable, but with a higher chance of enjoying it and succeeding in it.

From only looking at 3 different websites, I have found over 850 live vacancies in Nottingham and a 15 mile radius. Here are some examples:

> Apprentice Baker > Apprentice Receptionist

> Digital Marketing Apprenticeship > Dental Nurse Apprenticeship

> Apprentice Teaching Assistant > Hairdressing Apprenticeship

> Apprentice Printer > Software Development Apprenticeship

> Apprentice Support Worker/Carer > Apprentice Lettings Adviser

> Apprentice Optical Assistant > Engineering Apprenticeship

Throughout my working career I find that people's knowledge and understanding of the variety of vacancies available is quite limited. It is also important to remember that they can vary quite dramatically on where you are located.

One of the things that supports this, is the National Apprenticeship Service that run National Apprenticeship Week every year in around February, to raise awareness of apprenticeships, share information from large employers, provide a platform for large employers, share vacancies available across the country and regionally, and different support for future apprentices; there is also something coming in the near future. Rate My Apprenticeship are providing a virtual event in October ( 20th and 21st) 2021 for young people to meet and hear from 15 of the UK's top apprenticeship employers. It is important to register for this on their website, to ensure that you are able to attend it.

As careers professionals, we are here to support people of any age with any area of need, especially with apprenticeships. Whether it is supporting you to identify what kind of apprenticeship is right for you, finding vacancies, applying for vacancies, preparing for interview or anything else that could be useful for you as an individual. Linking with this, I am offering a whopping 30% discount on the fee for an aspiring apprentice. Please see the voucher on the website in order to use this. Take into account that it will expire on 1st October 2021.
