With the summer holidays fast approaching (just over a week for me), it got me thinking about what it means to our countries economy. As I'm sure many will resonate, I pay a small fortune on all the activities and trips away for a little holiday during the school holidays to keep my children occupied and entertained. How does this affect the UK economy? Since 2010 tourism has been the fastest growing sector in the UK in employment terms. In 2010-12 the net increase in jobs was 4.7% p. a. Inbound tourism is the fastest growing in the tourism sector, and forecast to be at 6% compared to domestic spending by UK residents at 3%; after the rapid growth each year. The Royal Family also play their part in the fast growing tourism; bringing in £550 million in 2017; and £535 million in 2015 according to a report from Brand Finance.Definitely worth thinking about when we’re planning our trips out and sharing our own culture with international visitors during the holidays.
